6 Good Manners for Kids: A Guide to Instilling Respect and Courtesy

Hello, please, thank you, you’re welcome, and sorry are all basic manners that we all should abide by and the same goes for children, even at pre-school age. If your child wants to be happy, social, and successful in pre-school, then good manners can give them a good foundation.

Start teaching good manners to kids at an early age, because the earlier you start the earlier your child will start using good manners. Kids learn manners (good and bad) from you, so use the same good manners that you want to see from your children. Good manners and proper etiquette instil respect and courtesy for others and need to be taught, shown, and enforced daily.

Here are six of the most important skills for good manners that every child should know.

6 GOOD MANNERS THAT ALL KIDS NEED TO KNOW

1. Saying ‘Please’ and ‘Thank You’

This is a basic form of common courtesy that all kids should know. Saying ‘please’ expresses consideration for others, while saying ‘thank you’ shows gratitude and appreciation.

2. Apologising

Teach your child to say ‘I’m sorry’ when necessary and not just use it casually. Apologising shows that they are taking responsibility for their actions.

‍3. Ask for Permission

Children should always ask for permission before taking or borrowing anything that doesn’t belong to them.

‍4. Saying ‘Excuse Me’

Saying ‘excuse me’ demonstrates consideration for others and teaches children how to be included in a conversation without interrupting anyone.

‍5. Sharing

“Sharing is caring” – as the saying goes, and sharing is a huge part of socialising and making friends. Sharing shows that you care, and other kids will like that.

6. Be Kind

Children need to learn the importance of being kind to all human beings and animals, without discriminating.

Tips For Teaching Your Child Manners

Good manners come from good habits. Forming good habits takes time, as does forming good manners. As a parent or teacher good manners activities for preschoolers can make learning proper manners more fun and engaging.

The activities below are great ways for kids to learn good manners at Day Care in Wimbledon.:

  •         Table manner games
  •         Good Manners Picture Books
  •         Good Manners Sing-along songs

If you’re a teacher at a Playschool in Wimbledon or a Nursery School in Wimbledon, try incorporating fun activities into your good manners lesson plan for preschoolers.
